Spiritualitas Jemaat di Tengah Budaya Konsumerisme: Analisis Teologi Kontekstual dalam Pelayanan Pastoral

Yan Kristian Halomoan, Kornelius Rulli Jonathans

Abstract

The urgency of this topic is examined due to the increasing prevalence of consumerism culture that is becoming more entrenched in the lives of Christians across various church denominations. The values of materialism, self-interest, and instant lifestyles pose serious challenges to the spiritual growth of every Christian. This article aims to analyze the spirituality of the congregation amidst the tide of consumerism thru qualitative methodology with a contextual theology approach in pastoral care. The research findings indicate that consumerism is not only reflected in the lifestyle of the congregation but also in the church's service practices, which tend to be pragmatic and transactional. Therefore, pastoral ministry needs to play an active role in building authentic spirituality based on Gospel values, as well as offering pastoral strategies that encourage the transformation of faith and the ethical life of the congregation in the church. Therefore, the spirituality of the church must be shaped with a critical awareness of the surrounding culture and rooted in Christian values.
